Connection Count Limit in Filter Manager

I have a mini-filter that uses the Filter Manager’s communication port facility.

If I try to create more than 10 pairs of communication ports at one time, FilterConnectCommunicationPort returns ERROR_CONNECTION_COUNT_LIMIT (0x800704D6).

Now the questions:

If other mini-filters are using this communication port facility on the same machine, is the pool shared? Per Process? Per Session?

Is there a way to change this limit?

Does anything other than Filter Manager communication ports use up this resource?

If anyone has some insight into this limit, I’d appreciate the info.

Thanks,
Derek

In your mini-filter, the FltCreateCommunicationPort call has a parameter
called MaxConnections. Is that what you mean?

Thanks, Ken

I did have the parameter set to 10, so that was the limit that I was hitting :-).

I should have grepped my code for !!! comments, since I had a question about what the parameter did. When I first conceived my application, there was no way I would have even 10 connections.

The IFS kit doesn’t describe why this parameter exists. I guess there are some resources associated with each ‘potential’ connection.

Thanks,
Derek
