Windows 8.1 Update: New WDK Supports Visual Studio Express

As you would already know if you followed us on Twitter https: there’s good news for the driver development community.

Starting with the release of WDK 8.1 Update, the WDK now supports Visual Studio Express.

Yay! The tools for building drivers are once again free for all to use.

There ARE a few limitations: No conversion from sources/dirs to VS Projects… and the Code Analysis warnings that are supported are very limited (odd, that last one… but it’s apparently there’s a limit on what the VS folks are willing to give away for free).

You can read more about it in our Dev Blog here: http://bit.ly/1j4iFE5

Is there any other changes in the new WDK? I ask because I notice that the
WDK 8.1 seems no longer available. This is a concern for those of us who
want to maintain the same environment as our customers. Of course I am
also curious since if there are changes then we need to update our
environments in general.
