Brightness Model question

Hi,

I am researching options for controlling brightness of external monitors using the native brightness slider.

HID USB Monitor Control Class Specification for controlling most external monitor settings using self-made tools is present along with HID brightness keyboard buttons(starting Windows 8).
It seems rather strange that given the above it is not possible to use the native windows brightness slider or new special HID brightness keys to adjust brightness on monitors complying with USB Monitor Control Class Specification.
What’s more is statements like “Tip #2” here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj128402(v=vs.85).aspx

Questions:

  1. Are there plans to expand the brightness model given recent driver changes in Windows 10 and rumors of 2016 update bringing new device classes?
  2. What would be the best way to go about brightness control of external displays using native brightness slider and brightness keys given the current model? filter drivers? workarounds?
Goal is to have no proprietary software.

Many Thanks
