Sad News: Thomas Divine

I am sorry to report that our colleague in the Windows driver development community Thomas Divine died at the end of June 2015. He was 69 years old.

I knew Thomas for a long time… probably close to twenty years. I met him in-person at various conferences, and I always enjoyed his company. I remember him answering questions here on NTDEV as recently as mid-June.

Thomas was an NDIS expert. He always generously shared his knowledge by answering questions and helping people with technical issues. He never failed to be pleasant in his replies. That was his nature.

I’m going to miss Thomas. And our community will be poorer as a result of his passing.

I just thought you’d all like to know,

Peter

Thanks, Peter.

All true. I’d add that Thomas was a veteran and also just a good, solid
dude.

I too will miss TD.

Such sad news. Whenever an NDIS has come up, I always waited to see what he had to say (as I had no clue ;)). Thank you for sharing.

Yikes. That is sad. Thomas was an Official Windows Dinosaur. He will be
missed.

He helped me tremendously in the past. His NDIS knowledge was impressive.

This is sad news indeed.

Paul

I and many others I have worked with owe an unpayable debt of gratitude to
Thomas for his council, tutelage, and friendship over many years.

Fair winds friend …

Dave Cattley

Thanks, Thomas. You shared your knowledge with me and many others.

Fare well, TD. Thanks for all the help you’ve given to the community!
He was a truely nice person.
Kind regards, Dejan.

This is a really sad news.

Thomas was my favorite poster in this NG. Apart from being a renowned NDIS expert he was DEFINITELY (at least on my books) one the most intelligent posters in the history of his NG ever and, apparently, the only NTDEV member whom I really had a profound respect to…

Rest in peace, Thomas…

Anton Bassov

Sad news. As recently as few weeks back I visited his NDIS website for some specific (non miniport) info.

RIP Mr. Thomas Divine.

Thank you, Peter.

May there be someone who is able to say the same things about us when our time comes…

Thomas was truly a class act, and a good friend. Not only was he willing to
help on NDIS, Thomas and I traded contracts at times when the other could do
better. My favorite was years ago some members of my family that lived near
Thomas were asking me for remote tech support. I asked Thomas for the name
of a good computer store in his area so I could send the family to it, he
offered to go over himself to fix the problem. Thomas will be sorely
missed.

It was good to know that Mr. Divine is around. No more.
I’ve used his ndisprot package and code examples a lot, and had
opportunity to thank him in person at the 1st DevCon.

He will be missed and remembered warmly.

Thank you for informing, Peter.

I had email exchange in March/April, and never realized he was sick or
something. I had, in the past, few phone conversations with him mostly
outside normal tech talk…

I will miss my friend.

Such sad news. I remember conversing on this very list with Mr. Divine over
a decade ago. He was helpful on many occasions. I do not recall if we ever
met.

True, Don…

For example, today someone asked a question about cloning NetbufferList in this NG, and I feel really, really sad to realize that I will never ever have a pleasure of reading Thomas’s reply or having an off-list conversation with him…

I’m locking this thread as a lasting tribute to Mr. Divine (before it devolves into anything else).

Thanks to everyone for sharing.
