HCK compatible Windows OSes

Hello,

I need to test my driver on following operating systems through the HCK. I
downloaded HCK version 2.1. I’m going to install this on Windows Server
2012.

I want to make sure that I can test the driver on following OSes using that
setup.

Windows 8.1 x64
Windows 8.1 x86
Windows 8 x64
Windows 8 x86
Windows 7 x64
Windows 7 x86
Windows Vista x64
Windows Vista x86
Windows XP x86

I believe it is possible but I don’t want surprises in the middle of
testing other than driver issues so it is better to be sure before starting.

Do you see any issues?

Thank you.

The HCK will not test Vista or XP. When you submit a package with any
of the supported systems (7/8/8.1), you can request that the certificate
apply to Vista and XP for free.

Hello,

Does that mean I do not need to run the tests on Windows XP and Windows
Vista operating systems?

I’m a bit confused on the matter of WHQL testing here.

What I thought was first I need to install HCK on Windows Server 2012 and I
need to install HCK client on the OS under test.
Then carry out the testing for my driver and provide logs to Microsoft for
WHQL.

Based on your answer what I feel is I just need to test for Windows 7/8/8.1
and then I can request for Windows XP and Vista certification using those
logs.

Do I miss something here?

That depends. If you expect your drivers to run on XP and Vista, then
you darned well better do testing on those operating systems, but it’s
not required to get the WHQL signature or the logo.

What I thought was first I need to install HCK on Windows Server 2012
and I need to install HCK client on the OS under test. Then carry out
the testing for my driver and provide logs to Microsoft for WHQL.

That’s right. However, the HCK client won’t drive clients that are
running on XP or Vista.

Based on your answer what I feel is I just need to test for Windows

Nope, that’s exactly right.
