WDK Community BugBash 2010 Contest Rules

 

 

Contest Rules

 

1.  This Contest is organized by OSR Open Systems Resources, Inc. (the “Organizer”), with a mailing address of 105 Route 101A, Suite 19, Amherst, NH 03031.

2.  This Contest is not available in any State of the United States or any nation in which it is prohibited, or where the Contest violates any law, regulation, or other applicable authority.  Neither the Sponsors, the Organizer, nor their agents warrant or represent that this Contest may be entered legally in any particular jurisdiction except for the State of New Hampshire.  This Contest is void where prohibited.

3.  The entry period begins at 12:01 a.m. 1 August 2010 and ends at 11:59 p.m.  1 February 2011 (the “Entry Period”).  Times are given in United States Eastern Standard Time.

4.  This Contest is open to all natural persons who have reached the age of legal majority in his or her home state or country (“Participants”), provided that this Contest is not prohibited in his or her home state or country.  ITT Corporation employees, Microsoft employees, and shareholders, officers, directors, and employees of the Organizer or of Organizer's advertising, promotion or fulfillment agents, and their immediate family members and persons living in their households, are not eligible to participate in this Contest.

5.  NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO WIN.  Participants must submit to the Organizer via the entry from available on http://www.osronline.com during the Entry Period (a) a description of one (1) “bug” in the Windows™ Driver Kit (“WDK”) (b) a specified “fix” for that bug, (c) a clear and specific description of where in the WDK the bug is found, and (d) a  method of confirming that the bug being reported is actually a bug, and that  the asserted fix is correct.  A demonstration program, citation of other appropriate documentation will be sufficient as a method of confirmation.   Only the first Participant to submit a particular bug, as determined by Organizer, will be eligible for a prize for that bug.  A panel of qualified judges appointed by the Organizer will rank each entry based upon the following criteria:  (i) severity of the identified bug, (ii) impact of the identified bug on those whom the judges deem “typical” Windows™ device driver writers, and (iii) correctness of the specified fix.  Winners will be notified by email within fourteen (14) days of the end of the Entry Period. 

6.  The following prizes will be awarded:

Two (2) First Prizes:Driver Guru Prize Pack, containing:

  • HP Mini-210 Netbook
  • Free registration for 1 person at OSR's Kernel Debugging & Crash Analysis for Windows seminar (public, e.g., "open enrollment" offering only; must be used within one (1) year of the close of the Entry Period)
  • Free, one-year Visual Studio Ultimate with MSDN subscription (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/subscriptionschart.aspx for details on what's included with this subscription)

Three (3) Second Prizes:Driver Developer Prize Pack, containing:

  • 32GB Apple iPod Touch
  • Free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate English (DVD)
  • OSR Prize pack: The NT Insider Collection, 1 USB FX2 Board, choice of 1394 Card for Debugging hardware (Visit the Store at www.osronline.com for more details on these items)

There is a limit of one First or Second Prize per person, household, or email address.  No prize substitution, cash substitution, or assignment or transfer of prizes is permitted, except by the Organizer for reason of unavailability in which a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded. Retail values listed for prizes are approximate and given as a guide only.

7.  Organizer's technical staff will classify every entry received during the Entry Period as either a “Technical Bug” or an “Editorial Bug” based upon the nature of the reported problem.  Each Participant who submits a Technical Bug during the Entry Period will receive a Technical Award and each Participant who submits an Editorial Bug during the Entry period will receive an Editorial Award.

           

Technical Award:

  • 4GB USB Flash Drive
  • WDK Community BugBash T-Shirt
  • One Microsoft Windows 7 Keychain (while supplies last)

Editorial Award:

  • 1GB USB Flash Drive
  • WDK Community BugBash Mouse Pad
  • One Micrsoft Windows 7 Keychain (while supplies last)

There is a limit of one Technical Award or one Editorial Award per person, household, or email address.  No prize substitution, cash substitution, or assignment or transfer of awards is permitted, except by the Organizer for reason of unavailability in which an award of equal or greater value will be awarded.

8.  The recipient of any prize or award from this Contest is solely responsible for all income, sales, excise, use or other taxes, customs duties, fees or any other fee or tax.

9.  By entering the Contest, each Participant (a) consents to the use of his or her name for the Organizer's advertising and promotional purposes without any additional compensation;  (b) warrants and represents that he or she has read and agrees to abide by all Contest rules and that he or she is not prohibited from participating in this Contest by any these Contest Rules or by any applicable law, regulation, or other authority;  (c) releases the Organizer and its shareholders, officers, directors, employees and agents and their shareholders, officers, directors, employees and agents, from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with this Contest or with the acceptance, possession, or use of any prize or award (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, and losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light).

10.  By entering the Contest, each Participant agrees to be bound by these Contest Rules and the decisions of Organizer and its judges, whose decisions shall be final.  By entering the Contest, each Recipient agrees that the Organizer and its shareholders, officers, directors, employees and agents and their shareholders, officers, directors, employees and agents are not responsible for and shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, illegible, or unintelligible entries; (ii) telephone, electronic, hardware or software program, network, Internet, or computer malfunctions, miscommunications, failures, or difficulties of any kind; (iii) failed, incomplete, garbled, or delayed computer transmissions; (iv) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Organizer that may cause the Contest to be disrupted or corrupted; (v) any condition caused by events beyond the control of the Organizer that may cause prizes or awards to be delayed, damaged or lost during delivery; or (vi) any printing or typographical errors in any materials associated with the Contest.

11.  The Organizer reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or cancel this Contest at any time if a computer virus, bug, or other technical problem corrupts the administration, security, or proper play of the Contest or to modify any of these Contest Rules as necessary for any reason or as required by applicable law.

12.  THE ORGANIZER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (OR ANY LOSS OF REVENUE, PROFITS, DATA) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THIS CONTEST, EVEN IF SPONSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITIES OF SUCH DAMAGES.

13.  The Organizer, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the Contest process or the operation of the site or who is otherwise in violation of the Contest Rules.

14.  All entries and other materials (including all copyright, trademark, and other proprietary rights associated therewith) submitted by Participants ("Entry Materials") will become the property of Organizer upon submission. Without limiting the foregoing, each participant acknowledges that Organizer will own all rights to use, modify, and make derivative works of the Entry Materials without paying any free or compensation to Participant or any other person or entity. Further, each Participant warrants and represents that the Entry Materials do not violate or infringe any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary right of any other person or entity. Entry Materials will not be returned to any Participant.

15.  This Contest shall be governed by the laws of the State of New Hampshire, without giving effect to its conflicts of law principles.
