Which Name Shows Up On a Driver Signature?

Related to those signing threads going on: If I upload an EV certificate to the portal, it has been explained that that is mostly just for verification purposes. I can add additional certificates and sign drivers with that for submission. If I do so, is the name on the additional certificate the one which is shown if one is ever shown? And to clarify, the additional certificates still need to be authored by an authority? I'd like to manage my own after putting the EV up there. Cheers, R0b0t1

That allows you to sign the driver package cabinet files for submission.  The drivers themselves do not have to be signed at all. > If I do so, is the name on the additional certificate the one which is > shown if one is ever shown? Depends on where you look.  If you use Explorer and look at the properties, you'll see both your original certificate and the "Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher".  If you look in Device Manager, I think it will only show the Microsoft certificate.  If that's not there, it shows as "unsigned", even with an otherwise-valid certificate. > And to clarify, the additional certificates still need to be authored > by an authority? You get extra credit points, because I think you have managed to ask a question that has never been asked before.  I will be curious to know what you find out when you try this.  I can think of justifications both ways. -- Tim Roberts, xxxxx@probo.com Providenza & Boekelheide, Inc.

I'll be you a quick $20 bill that the cert still has to be one of the "dashboard accepted" certs of old... just so they don't have to change the code. Technically speaking, once the EV cert is filed (and they "know" you're "legit" for some value thereof), it shouldn't matter WHAT cert you sign with for the submission. As long as they have a copy of that cert in advance, they "know" it's you. Interesting... Let us know how it goes... Peter OSR @OSRDrivers

Speaking of - does anyone know a registrar who uses a business registry that is easy to get on?
