Win8 build 8441 symbols

Can someone point me to the right symbols for this build version 8441? If we try to bring down from the command line, it fails. I already tried - Windows_Winmain.8400.0.120518-1423.x64FRE.Symbols.msi after cleaning the local c:\symbols. But the symchk fails... thanks -pro --

Calvin, Could you elaborate on this? Is there a symbol pkg also available from the site? Doubt it though. IIRC, I just downloaded the ISO image. But don't think I've seen any such sym pkg. -pro On Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 5:14 PM, Calvin Guan (news) < xxxxx@gradovec.com> wrote: > We got the build and symbols together. > > On Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 2:35 PM, Prokash Sinha <xxxxx@gmail.com> wrote: > >> Can someone point me to the right symbols for this build version 8441? >> >> If we try to bring down from the command line, it fails. Please, guys... Let's keep the NDA stuff under NDA. Please? ANYway, if you're running 8441 you're using an old build. You probably should update whatever you're doing to 9200. Peter OSR

As of today: Free 90-day eval of Windows 8 RTM... for everyone... no MSDN subscription required: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx NOTE that it's an EVAL and CANNOT BE UPGRADED. Also note that downloads from Microsoft are slow as a slug today.... go figure. Peter OSR

Re: Win8 build 8441 symbols

One thing though Peter ... I did not see any desktop ( or client type ), just the enterprise server... Don't know if the desktop type is out there or not. Our objective is to get the WHQL move forward using the latest HCK, and if it is the desktop, then it is all the better. 90 days is good enough for the guys actively involved in the Logo testing :) I was looking around to pull down the 9200. One of our guy pull down the latest 32bit, but there is no way telling it is 9200 or not by just looking at the iso image name. If it happens to be 9200, sure we will try to see if the public syms are available on the ms symsrv or not... And I'm not sure, if I need to take this 9200 path. May be, just in case we don't find any RTM client type trial download. Main emphasis here is the desktop/laptop OS. -pro On Wed, Aug 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM, <xxxxx@osr.com> wrote: > As of today: > > Free 90-day eval of Windows 8 RTM... for everyone... no MSDN subscription > required: > > http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx > > NOTE that it's an EVAL and CANNOT BE UPGRADED. > > Also note that downloads from Microsoft are slow as a slug today.... go <...excess quoted lines suppressed...> --

Hello, Although I have not yet downloaded the ISO to confirm, but the link provided is Windows 8 Enterprise and does not say Windows Server 2012. This was akin to Windows 7 Enterprise I downloaded last year. The server versions starting 2008 R2 are only available for x64 architecture. I am not sure if IA64 architecture is targeted too. Thanks, Arvind

<quote> I did not see any desktop ( or client type ), just the enterprise server... Don't know if the desktop type is out there or not. </quote> Guys, c'mon... a little reading, perhaps? A little exercising of your Google-fu? Windows 8 *client* comes in three flavors: - Windows 8 - Windows 8 Pro - Windows 8 Enterprise ... and also, of course, there's the "similar but not identical" Windows RT for ARM systems (which is not and will not be downloadable from anyplace... it only comes pre-installed on systems). The link I provided -- which I got from Google for y'all incidentally, I didn't use any magical powers -- is for Windows 8 Enterprise and is indeed the client SKU. There *are* Windows Server 2012 RTM releases around as well. I haven't tripped over any that are freely downloadable for trial/testing. They may be there, but I just haven't seen them. Hope that clears things up, Peter OSR

Re: Win8 build 8441 symbols

Trust me!!! I've googled it. There was not anything specific about the clients. Given, it did not occur to me that Enterprise is also a client. Heck, why do we need to remember a but load of versioning when __right at the link, there could be dog litters that could tell it_ How may words do we need for? What is the information content? What is the entropy?. Also, how would one know that 9200 is indeed the RTM? You gave link, sure thanks, but are U giving the RTM? or Is it something that you out there, but may not be RTM? How do a lame head like me will correlate? We have been doing the WHQL, and there is no mention about what OS version/build etc., we should use etc. ( Oh, did we miss it from the plethora of docs that says it - just like the credit card invitation on the back of the application, typed with Latex font ). So we have been just pulling down what ever we get ( following the monotone strictly increasing build number, though link does not say any build number, sure we have to click the link, get the download via connect going on, and watch for the dates, tally it with previous one ... Ah, this is a new one, we should try. Yep, in the past month we saw, a later version gobbled quite a few error/fails to success ). Quiz: You were dropped into an unknown city. A random person is going across. What is the name of the person? U are not supposed to ask anyone? Just come up with. Ans:: Joe. Response: No he is not Joe, his name is Bob Ans:: You did not say, you will verify. You wanted a name -pro On Thu, Aug 16, 2012 at 6:47 AM, <xxxxx@osr.com> wrote: > <quote> > I did not see any desktop ( or client type ), just the enterprise > server... <quote> Trust me!!! I've googled it. There was not anything specific about the clients. Given, it did not occur to me that Enterprise is also a client. </quote> SERIOUSLY? Google "Windows 8 Editions" -- The SKUs are described in Wikipedia for goodness sakes. BTW, you get the same Wikipedia article if you google "Windows 8 Enterprise" Google "Windows 8 9200" -- The second hit is an Ars Technica article with the title "Windows 8 released to manufacturing with build 9200" ANYHOW... I agree that the page on TechNet (the link that I posted)could be a lot more clear. Not only does it not say "client" anywhere, it also does not say "RTM", "Gold", or even "Build 9200". It simply says "The Windows 8 Enterprise 90-day evaluation is available to developers to build and test Windows 8 apps on the final version of Windows 8." Which I agree is a pretty unclear statement. And apparently I don't count because MSDN tells me "This product is not available at your subscription level." And oddly, the only versions of the VL editions I see are Pro. RE: Win8 build 8441 symbols

Of course with the release you have to be careful, since unlike earlier OS'es you have to activate Windows. This is a royal pain if you are like me who has a lot of hot-plug drives and when I need an OS on my test bed I grab one and install it. I quickly learned years ago, to never activate on a test system, or else expect to waste a huge amount of time on the phone with people who only roughly have English as a second language trying to get the system working. It will probably end up, I have to use one drive, and if I ever have more than one Win8 client at a time, tell them "ship me a spare license". Another instance of making the OS better, but harder for the developers.
